Department Philosophy - This course is designed to challenge students to meet their God given potential and to present opportunities for them to apply mathematical concepts to solve real-life problems.

College Prep Algebra 1b
This course is the basis for all subsequent work in mathematics.  Students will be introduced to fundamental concepts of expressions, equations, inequalities, and functions. This course introduces the student to the concepts and skills of Algebra to prepare her for future courses in Geometry and Algebra 2.  Topics include operations with real numbers, solving linear equations and inequalities, factoring, graphing, and functions. Students will integrate concepts of geometry, statistics, data analysis, probability and discrete mathematics in real-world applications to connect mathematics to other subjects such as science, history and health.

Sr. Mary Jane's Algebra 1 2nd Summer Packet

Algebra 1a
This course is designed to prepare students to be able to successfully complete a full high school mathematics curriculum. Areas of emphasis will include a review of the fundamental operations of arithmetic and basic concepts of rational numbers in both fractional and decimal form. In addition, students will learn to solve first-degree equations, perform operations on polynomials, graph first-degree equations, and apply these skills to problem solving. Calculators will be used frequently.

Honors Algebra 1
This course is open only to students who excel in math in their previous year. Students are expected to work hard for their grades. Students will solve real-life. Each class meeting will consist of a lecture and include related problem solving. This course introduces the student to the concepts and skills of Algebra to prepare for future courses in Honors Geometry and Honors Algebra 2. Topics include operations with real numbers, solving linear equations and inequalities, factoring, algebraic fractions, fractional equations, graphing, and functions. Topics are covered to a greater depth than in College Prep Algebra I. Students are expected to expand their math skills from integrating technology into their learning.

Honors Algebra 2
This course is open only to students who excels in Honors Algebra One.  The pace of this class is much faster than College Prep Algebra 2.  Students are expected to work hard for their grades.  Students will solve real-life problems and also solve SAT problems as well. Each class meeting will consist of a lecture and include related problem solving.  Topics included are functions and relations, systems of linear and quadratic equations, exponents and logarithms, complex numbers, and sequences and series. Graphing calculator is required. Students will solve problems of increasing complexity using previously learned concepts of Algebra 1 Honors.

Honors Geometry
This course is open only to students who excels in Honors Algebra Two. The pace of this class is much faster than College Prep Geometry. Students will do a lot of proofs. Students will be introduced to an overview of geometry such as to measure length and angles, to identify and draw the three basic rigid transformations: translation, rotation, and reflection, to use conditionals in logical arguments, to create logical chains from conditionals, to become familiar with proof, to explore similar triangles, and to learn different formulas of the areas of triangles, parallelogram, and trapezoids in order to develop logic and critical thinking. Students in this class will be required to memorize definitions and theorems more than other math class. Students are expected to do homework daily and to work hard for their grades. Geometry Sketch Pad and MathXL are implemented in this class.

Honors Precalculus
Students will learn how to identify the domain and range of any relation or function, to find composite functions, to add- to subtract- and to multiply matrices, to find a derivative of a function, to find critical points of the graph, to determine the roots of polynomial equations, and concentrate especially trigonometry. This class will involve some abstract thinking. Most of all, students will be prepared for AP Calculus in the senior year. Students are expected to do homework daily and to work hard for their grades. Students will use the graphing calculator while applying logic, reasoning, and critical thinking skills to analyze and solve problems. Students will use MathXL and other online resources in this class. Website Sr. Mary Jane wants students to use during the summer: http://jamesrahn.com/homepages/precalculus_review.htm

AP Calculus (also see this link)
This course will be the equivalent of first semester college calculus; all students taking Calculus will be encouraged to take the Advanced Placement Exam. Though equivalent, we have an opportunity with our small class size to build a more solid foundation of calculus concepts than is possible in a college course given their larger class size and intense pace. As a result, the intent here will be to establish an intuitive understanding of change and the way calculus can quantify change. Graphic calculators will be an integral part of the program leading to a deeper understanding of applications and an expertise with current technology. MathXL, Geometry Sketch Pad and Calculus in Motion are used in this class.

Accounting Philosophy - This course is designed to challenge students to meet their God given potential and to present opportunities for them to apply mathematical concepts to solve real-life problems.

Accounting I
This course is an introduction to the language of business. The students will be introduced to the planning, recording, analyzing, and interpreting of financial information so necessary in all aspects of business and in whatever environment they are in throughout their lives. Regardless of their responsibilities within an organization, the students will realize that they can perform their jobs more efficiently if they know the language of business.
