Philosophy - This course will be taught with some underlying principles: God as creator and shaper of language and culture; the dignity of the human person as His greatest creation—each person precious and unrepeatable; and the corresponding responsibility of each student to blossom and grow by developing her unique talents and gifts. All in education share the goal of communication with mutual love and respect, in every language, after the example of the Holy Family. The elements of language and culture to be explored in this elementary Spanish course will inform, enrich and produce students literate and communicative in a language culture currently growing in the United States, and capable of taking their place in society as responsible citizens who will respect, enjoy and contribute to Hispanic culture on a local and perhaps state, national, or global level. The U.S. Bishops document, Welcoming the Stranger Among Us, inspires the educational approach of openness, sensitivity and charity toward the peoples of many heritages that dwell in America now as well as in the past and future.
