Interscholastic Sports Program at the Academy of the Holy Family The Academy recognizes that a comprehensive and balanced interscholastic athletic program is an integral part of the total educational process. While the high school athletic program serves as an arena for the student-athlete to display her talents, she must, in turn, be willing to accept the responsibility to herself, to the team, and to the school. Participation in interscholastic athletics is a privilege, not a right.
Philosophy Statement The AHF Athletic Philosophy is one that encourages and allows for participation by all students at any level of competition. Its aim is to promote character and teach many values to the students. Among the values that help our athletes and competitors to become responsible adults include sportsmanship, leadership on and off the field, commitment to one’s team or activity, critical thinking during practice and competition, time management, self–discipline, and enjoyment. We believe that students will gain these and other values by taking part in the AHF Athletic Program throughout their time at the Academy. Our goal is to challenge our student athletes to strive to be the best they can be on and off the field. What is really important about athletics is to have fun, fight adversity, risk failure, get up when knocked down, compete as hard as one can, not use excuses, and learn how to win and lose gracefully.
Conference Affiliation AHF is a member of the Constitution State Conference governed by the Connecticut, Interscholastic Athletic Conference. The leagues in these conferences market themselves as developmental leagues, which stress the values and principles of sportsmanship and adhere to a mission statement similar to that of AHF. The latter conference is divided by geographical areas, AHF being in the East Division. Currently there are twenty schools total in the conference. Giving students the opportunity to compete in these leagues that recognize sportsmanship, fair play, and healthy competition bolsters their self-image and enhances their growth.
